Instead of treating the Covid 19 vaccine as an obligation, this will only be recommended by the federal goverment. The Ministry of Social Affairs has sent a corresponding decree in review this afternoon, comments can be submitted until December 10. This will improve the chances of compensation in the event of vaccination damage. Admittedly, the immunizations approved so far in Austria have proven to be largely safe, as can be seen from the figures given in the explanations of the regulation.
According to these figures, only 88 people currently receive pension benefits from the entire period of validity of the Vaccine Damage Act, which has been in force since 1973. In addition, minor damages without pension entitlement were also recognized: Since 1990, there have been 409, but the vast majority of these, 341, were recognized after TB vaccinations between 1991 and 1994.
The upcoming Covid-19 vaccination will be one of a series of vaccinations against measles, mumps, diphtheria, rubella, tetanus, pneumococcus, polio, hepatitis B and influenza. The advantage is that it is covered by the Austrian Vaccination Protection Act. If there is certainty that the financial burden of any vaccination damages that may occur will be borne by the Vaccination Damage Act, this could help to motivate people to take advantage of the vaccinations, the explanations say. The inclusion in the regulation also emphasizes the importance of vaccination.
